1. Does Railtec work directly with homeowners?
Yes. Railtec works directly with residential customers and homeowners, as well builders and general contractors.
2. How long does a typical job take?
That's a difficult question to answer. With a competent crew of 2-3 people we typically finish a job within one day. Each job is unique and depends upon a number of factors such as desired materials, number of stairs, desired finish, etc. We offer a free design consultation and offer free estimates.
3. How soon can you begin our job?
After a free consultation and/or estimate, we can typically schedule your job within 2-3 weeks. We will work with you to accommodate and try our best to meet your schedule.
4. Do I have to handle building codes and permits, or will Railtec handle all of that?
Railtec is well versed in all current building codes. Permits are handled by the homeowner or builder for new homes or additions. For replacement of an existing railing, permits are not required.
5. Does Railtec conduct exterior work on decks and patios?
No, Railtec currently only works with interior railing systems.
6. Does Railtec also finish and install hardwood stairs, or just work with railings?
We have a stain and finishing department that handles rails, newels, and balusters.
7. Is Railtec a member of any associations or organizations?
Yes, Railtec is a proud active member of The Home Builders Association of Maryland.
8. What are Railtec's payment terms? Do you require a down payment?
Yes. We require a 50% deposit prior to beginning work, and now accept credit cards.
12. What payment options do you offer?
Payment by check or credit card is due upon completion of install.
13. Can you match my existing stain color if I install new wood handrails or posts?
Yes. Railtec has a fully staffed professional stain and finishing department. We have the ability to match existing colors or custom blend colors for a beautiful finish on your stair rails. Additionally, we can match many laminate and pre-finished floors used by builders, such as Bruce hardwood floors.
14. Beside railing design and installation, what other services do you offer?
Railtec also offers stain and finishing on our installed rail systems.
15. How long have you been in business?
Railtec has been in business for over 14 years, serving the Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and DC areas.
16. Do you handle repairs or just new work?
In addition to new work or replacement of complete stair railings, Railtec also offers repair work.
17. Will you clean up after the job?
Yes! All Railtec vans are equipped with vacuum cleaners and our crews take pride in leaving every job site in top shape.
